“In my South, the most treasured things passed down from generation to generation are the family recipes.”

L to R: My Great-grandmother Goodrich, Grandmother, Maud Morgan, Mother, Gusta Giddings and my oldest sister, Brooke Giddings
When I was growing up I loved to watch my grandmother cook, she was rather short, and so I was always in awe of this tiny women cooking during the holidays, beating the turkey gravy into a luscious, silky-smooth buttery delight. Her Christmas Suet Pudding was legendary, she would start the pudding several months before Christmas, tenderly soaking it in brandy religiously every couple of weeks. By the time it was ready to be served for Christmas Eve with a heavenly light golden finishing sauce that my grandmother would serve in a sauceboat, with more brandy! We could hardly contain ourselves. Perhaps it was all the alcohol, but it was the richest food I had ever eaten, and I loved it.
